Background and Identification
Samsung spans numerous sectors of the consumer market, manufacturing electronics and home appliances, selling everything from a smartphone to a vacuum cleaner. Samsung originated as a company in 1938 when it was founded by Lee Byung-chul in South Korea. The company’s origins are vastly different from its activities today. Samsung started out as a small company with just forty employees that sold groceries, dried fish, and noodles. Around 1954, Samsung began expanding, dabbling in areas like insurance and retail. It wasn’t until the late 1960s that Samsung got involved in the electronics industry.
In 1974, Samsung entered the Korean kitchen appliance market. Their appliances were well received there. By 2005, Samsung had entered the US Market for kitchen and laundry appliances.
Samsung dishwashers are generally rectangular in shape and designed to fit under conventional kitchen counters. Samsung has introduced some innovations in the design of dishwashers. The newest is the Waterwall® system, which uses a spray device that moves in a linear front-to-back pattern instead of the conventional rotary spray arms found on many dishwashers. Samsung units also have self-clean cycles, which can be run when the machine indicates the need.
